D. Ray Bowe grew up in rural middle Tennessee early in the 20th century during the end of World War II and the height of the Cold War.  There is no question that he is a country boy.  As a youngster, watching a lot of military activity around his ridgetop home piqued his interest in the military enough so that he joined the National Guard and then enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He trained to be an aircraft engine specialist on the J-47 jet engine which powered the B-47 Stratojet six-engine bomber.    Yes, he was a mechanic, keeping the bomber and some fighters in tip-top shape.  Later in his career, Ray was nominated for employee of the year in Indianapolis, Indiana and was promoted to  Chief Petty Officer in the Navy Reserves.  He also earned his aircrew wings with the Navy sub-fleet patrol.  D. Ray Bowe was not all warrior and soldier; he was also a man of God.   His interest in the Lord was so focused that, after his military career, he went back to college and successfully completed two bachelor’s degrees : one in Christian Religions and another in Pastoral Studies.  He went on to become an ordained reverend in the All-Saints Episcopal Church and, later, an ordained Priest.
